10 Tips for Traveling during a Pandemic

Where are you traveling and how can you travel safely?
We wish that we could be blissfully ignorant about the words social distance, masks, quarantine, vaccines, COVID tests but the reality is you must know these facts to travel safely.

The great news is that you CAN Travel! No matter where you travel, follow these tips:

# 1 – Call a Travel Advisor (you won’t regret it)
#2 - Bring masks & hand sanitizer
#3 - Check for protocols for your destination:
o Are masks mandated indoors and with some activities? Bring masks because you will need them. If wearing a mask all the time is not your idea of a fun vacation than find another destination.
o Is proof of vaccination required to dine indoors and enjoy some activities? Many destinations are moving to this model.
o Is there a curfew? Unless you go to bed at 730, an 8pm curfew is no one’s idea of a great vacation.
o Is everything that I want to do and experience open? Are museums open? Is the spa and pool at the resort open and are all services available? Can I try that famous gelato place in Florence? Can I drink champagne overlooking San Marco’s square in Venice? Will I be able to see how small the Mona Lisa really is at the Louvre? Can the waiter bring me frozen cocktails all day on the beach at my favorite resort?
#4 - Be patient and respectful – many companies/airlines/hotels are still understaffed. There are mandated protocols that employees must enforce. Be nice, they are doing their job.

#5 - Check for entry requirements. Destination’s requirements differ and change daily. Some countries mandate vaccines, require a negative PCR test, health certificates, passenger information forms, restrict tourism to specific parts of the country, require specific travel insurance in case you have to quarantine, require apps to upload vaccination and test status. Some destinations require ALL of these.

#7 – Before you depart the US, ask your destination hotel if they provide an antigen test so you can be tested within 3 days of your return to the US. Many resorts provide tests onsite or refer you to a local pharmacy.
#8 – Understand how, where and cost of quarantining if you test positive before returning to the US.
#9 – Purchase travel insurance for cancellation, trip interruption, medical, pre-existing conditions, and quarantine. A wise travel insurance partner told me “Travel insurance is the biggest waste of money that you were so thankful to have”.
# 10 – See #1 then relax. Travel Advisors are educated, experienced professionals who know the requirements for travel. Not to mention the value Travel Advisors have ALWAYS had including relationships with travel partners around the world to ensure you can experience everything you have dreamed of on your vacation. We create customized itineraries based on you.

Ultimately, the magic and inspiration of travel are worth the effort of the rules and requirements!
