Business Development Sessions Coming Soon
SFCC is continually seeking ways to promote the exchange of information among its valued members. In early Spring, SFCC will begin offering monthly presentations to provide information to its members, covering topics such as identifying procedural changes that can reduce operating costs, using technology to promote business, and methods for improving supervisor and employee communications.
Many business owners and employees would like to take advantage of learning opportunities, but just don't have the time to leave the office and commute to the training location. With that in mind, our new Business Development Sessions, or BDS, may be the future of the "Brown Bag Lunch." In keeping with the e-commerce theme of the Chamber and promoting the use of technology, the monthly BDS will be hosted via Webinar! The BDS is free for Chamber members and will be held at noon. Offering the BDS via webinar during lunchtime will allow more members to participate and will not take away from the normal working hours. You can now enjoy your lunch at your desk or in a place of your choosing while still being able to take advantage of our monthly presentations!
Our goal is to offer sessions that are both informative and relevant to your business needs. We solicit your suggestions for topics that you feel would be of interest and would benefit many businesses. If you have a suggestion for a topic, please email your request to Dr. Audrey Prestonsoto.
We will begin posting the BDS schedule and topics on the calendar soon, so don't forget to keep checking the website! Sign up early, because limited spaces will be available.
South County Secondary School Business Cooperative Internship Program A valuable asset for employers and a great opportunity for students
The Business Cooperative Internship Program (BCIP) is a cooperative arrangement between South County Secondary School and employers in the community. It allows participating students who are enrolled in the program to receive class credit for on-the-job work experience. Students are trained in a variety of business practices, including accounting, office administration, management, desktop publishing, and retail sales, to name a few.
Employers who hire a BCIP student get a highly qualified worker at a reduced pay rate. Students have completed classes preparing them for the tasks and challenges that they will encounter in the work pace. Students are available for placement in many positions including office assistant, receptionist, data entry clerk, word processing specialist, assistant manager and desktop publisher.
By participating in this program you will take an active role in the education and career preparation of students in our community. You will also provide real-world experience that enables our young citizens to transition from school to career, increasing the number of economically productive members of society.
If you would like to include a BCIP Intern in your workforce, contact Lucia Ferguson for more information. Don’t miss the opportunity to meet Patty Washington, South County Secondary School BCIP Coordinator, at our March Membership Meeting.
